Taco Bell is testing one new product that’s just in time for warm weather

Summer is just around the corner with the weather getting warmer.

Now fast food chains are beginning to switch up their menus.

And Taco Bell is testing one new product that’s just in time for warm weather.

Taco Bell expanding its drinking selections

At one time, fast food restaurants only had a handful of options from fountain machines for drinks.

Now chains are ramping up their drink options for thirsty customers.

Drawing inspiration from the success of Starbucks, fast food places are offering more creative drinks to give customers a choice beyond soda.

Taco Bell has a number of colorful and creative drinks on its menu but it’s testing something completely new in Southern California.

The chain is testing a line of Agua Refrescas inspired by the classic Mexican drink.

They start with a green tea base before infusing fruit flavors and pieces of real freeze-dried fruit to make a refreshing creation.

The Agua Refrescas come in three flavors – Strawberry Passionfruit, Peach Mango, and Dragonfruit Berry.

Right now, they’re only for sale at a single location in Irvine, California with no word on if or when they’ll hit menus nationwide.

Lucky Southern California residents can pick up a 16oz Agua Refrescas for $3.99.

“We want to make our beverages just as iconic as our food,” Taco Bell Chief Marketing Officer Taylor Montgomery said in a press release. “Our new Agua Refrescas are a perfect, vibrant pairing with everything our fans crave from Taco Bell and will help us on our journey to make Taco Bell a beverage destination.”

This is the latest beverage that Taco Bell has tested for a potential nationwide rollout.

Coffee Chillers and Churros Chillers – a frozen coffee and a milkshake respectively – had a limited release last December.

Taco Bell looking to compete with Starbucks

Taco Bell looked to the classic Mexican drink agua fresca, made with fruit and water with sugar and other flavorings mixed in.

But the Agua Refrescas could be an attempt to draw customers from Starbucks.

They’re similar to Refresher drinks served at the coffee chain.

Starbucks has a Strawberry Acai Refresher, Mango Dragonfruit Refresher, and Pineapple Passionfruit Refresher.

The flavors are similar but Taco Bell has an edge on Starbucks on price.

Refreshers can cost up to $5 while the Agua Refrescas are $3.99.

Clearly Taco Bell is looking to expand its drink menu and potentially become a lower-priced alternative to Starbucks.
