Halle Berry revealed one skill she learned for a movie that put jaws on the floor

Halle Berry has been a leading lady in Hollywood for more than two decades.

But that doesn’t mean she’s not learning new tricks.

And Halle Berry revealed one skill she learned for a movie that put jaws on the floor.

Halle Berry does something shocking to get into a part

Actress Halle Berry got deep into method acting for one aspect of her new movie Never Let Go.

She appeared at Lionsgate’s CinemaCon to promote the film from veteran French horror director Alexandre Aja.

In the film, Berry plays a mother with two children living off of the grid in the woods where a mysterious evil presence surrounds them.

So she got into the part by picking up a new survival skill.

“There was no electricity, no lights, my character skinning squirrels,” Berry said. “And they’re eating bugs and frogs — raw frogs — in the woods.”

“It was a challenge,” Berry said about the survivalist lifestyle of her character.

The Academy Award-winning actress said that she used “a little bit of Method acting.”

And that included actually skinning a squirrel herself.

“I had to really skin a squirrel,” Berry said. “These things wildly challenged me to create some reality within this world that felt so foreign.”

Berry, a former Miss USA competitor and top model, was pushing herself to get into her new character.

But she admitted that she loved the thrill of it.

“I am a bonafide adrenaline junkie,” Berry said. “The bigger the rollercoaster, the bigger the bungee jump, the longer the zipline, I’m your girl. This gave me an opportunity to be a part of a world I had never seen before.”

Interesting plot device in new Halle Berry movie

Berry’s character and her children in Never Let Go have to always stay connected via rope when they leave their remote cabin in the woods.

This is similar to Bird Box, where the characters had to blindfold themselves, and A Quiet Place, where they couldn’t talk.

“These boys have never left the house that they were born in for 10 years,” Berry explained. “Right away, it was a creepy environment. I was challenged to bring reality to what that would be like. What does mothering look like in a house in the woods with no one around?”

She said that she used her own experience as a mother to two children.

“Since I became a mother 16 years ago, playing these kinds of roles has wildly excited me,” Berry said. “With this movie, it reminded me how I would protect my children with my life.”

Halle Berry is back this fall with a new thriller that could be one of the surprise hits of the year.
