Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy just made an announcement that shook up Capitol Hill

Dec 14, 2023

The removal of Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) from the House Speaker’s chair was huge news.

But now McCarthy has made news again.

Because former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy just made an announcement that shook up Capitol Hill yet again.

Disgraced former Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) announced last week that he is retiring from Congress at the end of the year.

Serving in new ways

McCarthy penned an op-ed for the Wall Street Journal, where he wrote he would be resigning from Congress at the end of 2023 to serve America in new ways.

He further stated he will continue to recruit Republicans to run for office.

The announcement came just months after Capitol Hill was stunned when McCarthy was ousted as Speaker.

“It is in this spirit that I have decided to depart the House at the end of this year to serve America in new ways. I know my work is only getting started. I will continue to recruit our country’s best and brightest to run for elected office. The Republican Party is expanding every day, and I am committed to lending my experience to support the next generation of leaders,” McCarthy wrote.

He also followed up the op-ed with social media posts.

“It often seems that the more Washington does, the worse America gets. I started my career as a small-business owner, and I look forward to helping entrepreneurs and risk-takers reach their full potential. The challenges we face are more likely to be solved by innovation than legislation,” he added.

A country club Republican attacks country club Republicans

And he took to TV to both talk about his “new role” and to blast the very Republican Party he claims to be so proud of.

“When you look at the Democrats, they actually look like America. When I look at my party, we look like the most restrictive country club in America,” McCarthy said.

A very strange attack from a former leader of the GOP who is part of the very RINO country club that has ruled the Republican Party for far too long.

Some Democrats and RINO commentator’s believe McCarthy’s departure could put a damper on the GOP’s hopes of retaining the House majority in next year’s elections.

And McCarthy’s departure does further narrow Republicans’ already slim 221-213 majority early next year.

Other GOP leaders and conservative leaders point out it is McCarthy’s brand of compromise and sell-out that continues to hold the GOP back from further electoral advances.

As Congress looks to try and avert a partial government shutdown in mid-January, establishment politicians from both parties are wringing their hands over another RINO departure, leaving the conservative wing of the House GOP in an even stronger position once again.

What the political pundits overlook is that this is good news for America, and American taxpayers.
