A top Democrat is under criminal investigation for this jaw dropping reason

Jan 31, 2024

The Democrat Party’s culture of corruption reared its ugly head once again.

One of the left’s biggest stars may face a reckoning.

And now a top Democrat is under criminal investigation for this jaw dropping reason.

Punchbowl News broke the massive scoop that a grand jury served a subpoena to the House Sergeant at Arms as part of an investigation into “Squad” member Missouri Congresswoman Cori Bush.

The House Sergeant at Arms is responsible for coordinating security for members with the Capitol Hill Police.

At issue are $100,000 in payments Bush made to her now husband Cortney Merritts for security since 2022.

The Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust (FACT) filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission that Bush misused campaign funds for personal benefit by paying her husband’s firm above market rate for his services.

“It appears Rep. Bush’s campaign may have made payments for services that were unnecessary or above fair market value because of her personal relationship with the payee,” the complaint read. “If so, these payments would qualify as either impermissible payments to a family member or an impermissible gift.”

“Therefore, we request the FEC investigate whether Rep. Bush converted campaign funds for personal use by paying a salary that was not for bona fide services at fair market value,” the complaint added. “Ultimately, if one or more campaign laws are found to have been broken, we request the FEC hold the respondents accountable.”

In a statement acknowledging the investigation into her, Bush slipped up big time by confirming that she hired Merritts to provide security for her campaign.

That’s because Merritts isn’t licensed as a security guard in Missouri.

“[I] can confirm that the Department of Justice is reviewing my campaign’s spending on security services. We are fully cooperating in this investigation, and I would like to take this opportunity to outline the facts and the truth,” Bush’s statement began.

“Since before I was sworn into office, I have endured relentless threats to my physical safety and life. As a rank-and-file member of Congress I am not entitled to personal protection by the House, and instead have used campaign funds as permissible to retain security services. I have not used any federal tax dollars for personal security services. Any reporting that I have used federal funds for personal security is simply false,” Bush concluded.

It’s clear that this is only the beginning and that this scandal could end up with criminal charges.
